scott11 from Colorado asks: You scored your
first NHL goal against Steve Shields when he was playing for the Mighty Ducks. How does it feel to have Steve on your team
now?
Nick Boynton: He's a really good goalie and it's
great to have him on the team...He's a great guy.
Eric from North Uxbridge asks: Hi Nick how
are you today? I was wondering with the new rules how do you defend against those speedy forwards? Also do you like the rule
changes this year? Good luck and keep up the great work!
Nick Boynton: To defend against the forwards you
just have to be a little smarter and player better positional hockey. I like the rule changes. I think it's good for the game.
QTPieLax87 from Hingham, MA asks: How do you
train in the off-season, to come back in such top shape?
Nick Boynton: I work out at a gym near my house and
I follow our strength coach, John Whitesides, program. It helps keep me in top shape.
MWS1118 from Pawtucket asks: Dear Nick, The
Bruins are off to their best start in over 20 years. There is so much excitement surrounding the team now. What has been your
key to success at this point in the season, and what does this team have to do remain a threat in the Eastern Conference?
Matt in Pawtucket.
Nick Boynton: I think it comes down to hard work.
Robbie's got a great system for us to play, and everyone is on board with it. Getting beat out the way we did in the playoffs
last year is a great motivator to get back there again. We take things one game at a time but are playing with a lot of confidence
right now.
aisling from south boston asks: Did you decide
at a young age to play D or was that something that just happened sort of naturally or by choice of coaches?
Nick Boynton: It just happened naturally. I've been
a defenseman ever since I started playing. I don't really know why, but it's where I've always been.
the hip79 from lynn, ma asks: what kind of music
are you playing on your guitar right now?
Nick Boynton: Rock and roll or country. That's about
all I've got!
boynts44 from Waltham asks: Hi Nick! You're
my favorite Bruin! My question is if you were to fight PJ Stock who would win?
Nick Boynton: That's easy - I'd beat him up. Then he'd
probably come after me.
rhody from bridgewater asks: HI NICK I AM DIABETIC
AND TODAY IS MY FIRST DAY ON INSULIN. I AM 36 YEARS OLD AND PLAY HOCKEY. I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE DIABETIC TOO. I WONDERED IF
YOU HAVE ANY TRICKS WITH YOU PREGAME MEAL OR BEFORE TRAINING TO HELP YOU HAVE BETTER PERFORMANCE.THANKS GORDIE IN GLEN MURRAY'S
HOMETOWN.
Nick Boynton: No tricks. I just monitor my blood sugar
regularly - before, during and after I play - to make sure I keep it at the right level in order to feel my best and play
my best. That's probably the best advice I have.
Spiela from R.I. asks: How do you think your
time in Providence helped the development of your game?
Nick Boynton: I think it helped me understand the game
a lot better and helped me to realize how hard I have to work to be an NHL player.
cruznbruin from Calgary asks: How does it feel
to have such a good plus/minus record, and does it sit in the back of your mind when you get on the ice? Is it a conscious
thought or do you not even think about it?
Nick Boynton: I don't even think about it.
tricky from Ottawa asks: Hey Nick. Congrats
on your solid season so far. It must be gratifying to be doing so well both personally and team-wise. How does Coach Ftorek
compare with your former Junior coach Killer Kilrea in Ottawa?
Nick Boynton: They're have very different coaching
styles, but both demand hard work. That's all you can ask for in a coach. If you work hard he gives you a shot. Both Robbie
and Killer are comparable in that way.
jimlaxsno from Bedford asks: Nick, what is it
like to have such a great team and veterans such as Don Sweeney to help you while you are young in your career?
Nick Boynton: It's great. He's a good partner to have
and I learn a lot from him both on and off the ice.
gojoe19 from Agawam,MA asks: What is your feeling
about playing against Byron when he comes back to the fleet center on Thursday?
Nick Boynton: It's just another game. We're trying
to win and it doesn't matter who's on the other team. I'm happy for him that he signed, but it's something I'm not even going
to think about.
Lori from Massachusetts asks: Hey Nick, We read
in the Globe that you were brought up on a farm, since you came from that lifestyle, how do you feel being in a big city like
Boston? By the way, we just want to say that you're an exceptional defenseman, we look forward to seeing you rise to the top.
Nick Boynton: I'm very fortunate in the fact that Boston
is probably one of the best cities around. I get to live here through hockey season and then go back to the farm during the
summer, so I get the best of both worlds.
Matt from Bridgewater asks: how is the relationship
of the team on and off the ice?
Nick Boynton: It's great. I've never played on a team
where all the guys have been so close, and that only helps out with our play on the ice.
nybruinfan from long island, ny asks: Hey Nick,
I just wanted to say congratulations on the amazing start and that I am a big fan. I just want to know, how many days a week
would you recommend someone spends on weight training for hockey? Thanks and Good luck man.
Nick Boynton: I'd say three or four days a week, and
in addition do cardio maybe five or six times a week. I'm not an expert, but that sounds about right.
BostonGahden77 from Stoneham asks: Other than
being on a winning team, what's your favorite thing about playing hockey for Boston.
Nick Boynton: It's great to play on an Original Six
team with a lot of history and just the fact that it's what I've wanted to do since I was four years old. I'm just really
lucky to be able to do a job I love.
stockie42 from Lowell asks: hey nick do you
feel Big Joe as captain, has it made his game better is he different in your opinion from last year?
Nick Boynton: I think he's a great captain. He's the
best player in the league and he just keeps getting better. I think he was a great choice to be Bruins captain.
Alan from Canada asks: On the Bruins blue-line
do you sometimes think of the great players who were there before you? I hope one day you will be included with them. Keep
up the winning ways, good luck to the team. From a life long Bruins fan.
Nick Boynton: With Boston being an Original Six team
there's just so much history here. There have been so many great players from Bobby Orr to Ray Bourque and so many others.
There is just a lot of great tradition here and it's fun playing for such a storied franchise.
Nick Boynton: Well, I've got to go now,
but thanks for all the great questions and I'll see you back at the FleetCenter tomorrow night!
